Hall CounSGlors: unsung heroines By Carta Cherry You may hear a hall counselor say, “Hey, you guys quiet down,” or “Hurry up; it’s almost time for lights-out,” but you don’t always get to see their work behind the scenes. Time is something big that these girls devote to their jobs. They balance their time with attending hall meetings, serving parlor duty, planning hall socials, or ordering T-shirts. Hall coun selors must constantly quiet down their halls or make sure that the rules are taken seriously. There are several difficult experiences a counselor must face. A few of these may be to intermediate between a class mate and an adult, give advice at odd times, or write up a best friend. Junior Leah McCotter claims, “Being a hall counselor and a friend has been one of my hardest challenges.” For their hard work, hall coun selors receive numerous rewards in their hearts. They receive sat isfaction after helping someone with a problem or when their halls have fun at a social planned by the counselors. One of the best rewards to senior Lindsay Luxton is “knowing that you’re willing to do all that you can.” Hall counselors may feel sometimes that their hard work goes unnoticed, but that is not the case. Everyone recognizes their good attitudes and the effort they put forth. Without them, dorm life would be utter chaos.
